What Visitors Need to Know

Delaware legalized recreational cannabis in 2023, making it one of the newer legal states. The market is still small with limited dispensary options. Wilmington has the best access. No home cultivation is permitted under the current law. Philadelphia and New Jersey both have more mature markets if you're in the area.

Major Cities

Wilmington
Only real dispensary market in the state.

Wilmington has the most dispensary access in Delaware. The market is small but growing. Philadelphia is just 30 minutes away with a more developed market if you need more options.

Dover
State capital — limited options.

Dover has minimal dispensary access currently. The market is expected to grow as more licenses are issued.

Newark
University of Delaware town — minimal.

Newark has very limited dispensary options. Philadelphia is close enough to be the better choice for cannabis shopping.

Legal Background

Delaware Governor John Carney signed HB 1 and HB 2 in April 2023 legalizing recreational cannabis. Adults 21+ can possess up to 1 oz. The Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement oversees the cannabis program. Home cultivation is not permitted.
