What Visitors Need to Know

Oklahoma is technically medical-only but the program is so accessible that it functions almost like recreational. Getting an Oklahoma medical card is extremely easy and inexpensive — many visitors do it. Dispensaries are everywhere (Oklahoma has more dispensaries per capita than any state). If you get an OK card, you can possess up to 3 oz and even grow 6 plants at home. Recreational failed narrowly at the 2023 ballot but watch for future measures.

Major Cities

Oklahoma City
Dispensaries everywhere — more per capita than any state.

Oklahoma City has a staggering number of dispensaries — the density is unlike anything outside dedicated cannabis states. Competition has driven prices extremely low — some of the cheapest legal cannabis in the country. Getting an OK medical card as an out-of-state resident is possible with telemedicine. The dispensary experience is very consumer-friendly and welcoming.

Tulsa
Second city — equally saturated with dispensaries.

Tulsa has an equally impressive dispensary saturation. Prices are very competitive. Some of the best value cannabis in the legal market nationwide. The oil patch culture makes for a no-nonsense cannabis shopping experience.

Norman
University of Oklahoma town — dispensaries everywhere.

Norman has dispensaries near campus serving the OU community. Prices are low. The college town vibe means a young, casual cannabis culture.

Dispensary hours, prices, and local rules change frequently. Always verify before visiting.

Legal Background

Oklahoma voters passed State Question 788 in 2018 creating a very accessible medical cannabis program. Over 10% of the state's population holds a medical card. The program has minimal qualifying condition requirements — a physician recommendation is essentially sufficient. Recreational legalization (SQ 820) failed 62-38 in March 2023. Oklahoma has more dispensaries per capita than any state.

Finding Local Rules

Oklahoma's medical program is extremely accessible. Getting an OK medical card via telemedicine is easy for out-of-state residents. Check OMMA for licensed dispensaries.
