🧳 What Visitors Need to Know

Washington has been recreational since 2012 — one of the first two states. The market is extremely mature with excellent product and competitive pricing. Seattle has hundreds of dispensaries. The oddity: Washington is the only major legal state that doesn't allow home cultivation. The edible possession limit is very generous (16 oz). Strong market, diverse product selection. The best cannabis experience in the Pacific Northwest, though Oregon is also excellent.

📍 Major Cities

Seattle
World-class market — enormous selection, great prices.

Seattle has one of the most developed cannabis markets in the country. Hundreds of dispensaries compete across all neighborhoods. Prices are very competitive — mature market competition has driven prices down. Product quality is excellent. The dispensary experience in Seattle is professional and welcoming. You can find everything from basic to ultra-premium. Staff are knowledgeable. A top-tier cannabis city.

Spokane
Eastern Washington hub — solid market.

Spokane has a strong cannabis market serving eastern Washington and Idaho border traffic (Idaho is full prohibition). Prices are competitive. Good selection. The cannabis culture is less trendy than Seattle but genuine.

Bellingham
Near Canadian border — great market.

Bellingham is near the Canadian border and has a good cannabis market. Both Canada and Washington are legal — but don't cross the border with cannabis in either direction (customs/federal). Stock up locally and consume locally.

📋 Legal Background

Washington voters passed Initiative 502 in November 2012, one of the first two states to legalize recreational cannabis. Adults 21+ may possess 1 oz of flower, 16 oz of solid edibles, 72 oz of liquid edibles, and 7g of concentrate. Home cultivation is not permitted (a unique restriction for a major legal state). The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB) oversees the market.

📍 Finding Local Rules

Washington cities and counties can restrict but generally allow cannabis retail. Seattle and most major cities have multiple licensed retailers.
